Supporting men or male privilege? Women's progressive and reactionary collective action for men

Collective action for other groups, such as men's women, has usually been analysed social protest advancing equality of disadvantaged groups. In the current research we extend collective literature by applying SIMCA predictors—identity, injustice, efficacy—to investigate in support an advantaged group (women's men) and distinguishing its progressive reactionary forms. Across three online samples women (Study 1: N = 1825 US; Study 2: 679 UK; 3: 429 US), show that reinforcing male privilege is associated with outgroup identification injustice. Conversely, supporting men adopting egalitarian gender roles identification, outgroup-focused efficacy, ingroup Importantly, some these associations depend on content variables. We discuss implications our findings research.
